4th tier update

All sisters

Fire ant (Solenopsis invicta)

Refer to Fire Ant (Solenopsis invicta) for more details.

Monomorium minimum

Little Black Ant (Monomorium minimum)

They are the smallest ant species in the game. They have queen, workers and soldiers. They can release foul-smelling gas from their gasters to deter enemies. It's confirmed to be an AoE debuff.

Pheidole morrisii

Big-headed Ant (Pheidole morrisii)

They are as small as fire ants, with heads twice as big. They have queen, workers, soldiers and supersoldiers. The supersoldiers are tough and have powerful bites but fall often due to the inproportional size of their heads. They are confirmed to have a strong charge attack that may harm themselves.

Velvet Ant

Red Velvet Ant (Dasymutilla occidentalis)

They are wingless female wasps. They are very tanky, with venom-type damage reflection similar to spiny devil bush crickets. They are hesitant to fight. They have low bite damage, but at low health they can deal extremely strong venom damage with their stingers. They may flee with a speed boost.

Great Blue Skimmer(size comparison)

Great Blue Skimmer (Libellula vibrans)

They are revealed to be titan-class enemies. They fly around most of the time and only land to attack your ants. The nymphs won't be in the game.

Six spotted Tiger Beetle

Six-spotted Tiger Beetle (Cicindela sexguttata)

They are diurnal swamp variants of the beach tiger beetles. They are confirmed to have different stats and abilities from their beach cousins.

Wasp Mantidfly

Wasp Mantidfly (Climaciella brunnea)

They wait from high upon plants for a chance to carry creatures back to the plant and eat them.

Checkered beetle

Checkered Beetle (Enoclerus rosmarus)

They and their larvae are diurnal creatures with no ability or gimmick. Their larvae are also carnivorous, and likely will be an underground creature.

Bombadier beetle spraying

Bombardier Beetle (Brachinus altenans)

Refer to Bombardier Beetle (Brachinus altenans) for more details. Their larvae won't be in the game because they are deemed too boring and too similar to woodworms.

False Bombardier Beetle ready to use its special attack

False Bombardier Beetle (Galerita bicolor)

They look almost the same as true bombardier beetle, with darker heads and larger bodies. They spray formic acid that deal venom-type areal damage. Their carnivorous larvae are also in the game, and will most likely be an underground creature.

Green lynx spider

Green Lynx Spider (Peucetia viridans)

Another type of spiders that actively chase down their preys. They can spit venom from a long distance. They hide themselves upon plants, most likely on pitcher plants. They are currently the largest true spiders in the game.

Magnolia green jumper

Magnolia Green Jumper (Lyssomanes viridis)

Another type of jumping spiders. All jumping spiders will have new AI to not feel suicidal.

Six-spotted fishing spider

Six-spotted Fishing Spider (Dolomedes triton)

The challenge mode creature for fire ant missions. These spiders can walk on water. It is not confirmed if they can attack the bridges directly or only attack the traversing ants.

Pine woods tree frog

Pine Wood Tree Frog (Hyla femoralis)

They are frogs with ant diet. They will have devour attack, punch attack, slam attack and swipe attack. Their current genus name is Dryophytes. As all the amphibians, they will be able to swim.

American bullfrog

American Bullfrog (Lithobates catesbeianus)

They are the largest creatures in the game. They will have devour attack and swipe attack. In the spoiler image for Gamescom, they can be seen attacking creatures on different layers of the map. They won't be able to swim because they are too large.

Narrow-mouthed toad

Eastern Narrow-mouthed Toad (Gastrophryne carolinensis)

They are frogs with an ant diet. They will have devour attack, punch attack and devour attack. As all the amphibians, they will be able to swim.

Dwarf Salamander

Dwarf salamander (Eurycea quadridigitata)

Another amphibian in fire ant missions. They will have devour attack. They are very small but long. They canNOT cut off their tails. They will most likely be an underground creature. As all the amphibians, they will be able to swim.

Eastern Newt

Eeastern newt (Notophthalmus viridescens)

Another amphibian. They will be larger than salamanders and have the same moveset. They have poisonous skin that deal venom type damage reflection similar to red velvet ants. Adult newts will not be in the game since they lack the distinct poisonous skin. As all the amphibians, they will be able to swim.

Rough layout of a new mission map

New map

2 new missions are based in a Green Swamp Preserve, USA.

Carnivorous plants

Venus flytrap (Dionaea muscipula) and pitcher plants

Ants can harvest sweet nectar from these plants. There are chances that the ants trigger the traps and die in the process.

More carnivorous plants are planned but not yet revealed

Foliage aphids and aphid relocation

Titan-climbing system will be applied to creatures larger than beach tiger beetles.

Greatly improved AI colonies

Demo mission The Promised Land

Unknown release schedule

Surface Battle Arena

Side mission Adventure

Remade underground textture

Velvet worm

Velvet worm?

They were planned for leafcutter update but got scrapped due to deadline. They were said to come back into the game in the future, not sure how or what way.

Trap-jaw ant temporary queen

Trap-jaw ants?

Trap-jaw ants as a complete species is currently de-confirmed. However, you will be able to invade a trap-jaw ant nest in side mission Adventure, whenever it comes out. They have an enlarged worker acting as a queen model.

CONFIRMED NOT in version 1.0 of the game

Weaver ants are de-confirmed due to their unique nest system.

Slavemaker ants and army ants are de-confirmed as a complete playable species due to their complex nest system. The developers have shown interest in making non-nest side missions for them, however.

Antlions were replaced with tiger beetle larvae due to the hexagonal design of the game.

Titan beetles were scrapped, not sure what the reason was.

Multiple ant species were made as concept arts during the early days of EotU. As the game evolves into an RTS game, the developers have focused on quality instead of quantity. Species that offer the most unique gameplay or special abilities will have higher chance of coming back. The scrapped species currently include raspberry crazy ants, bull ants, exploding carpenter ants, Indian jumping ants, honeypot ants, Saharan silver ants and turtle ants.
